This golf course, just outside taupo, has been in the top 100 golf courses outside of the US, according to the US Golf Digest, for some time now. And with good reason. Every detail is well organised, from clubhouse to golf shop, and a truly stunning golf course.Sometimes you feel as though you’re playing Augusta, with lavish flower beds, and as though the fairways and greens are being cut with a nail clipper. But don’t be fooled, the course is tricky, with lots of undulating faiways, and difficult doglegs; it’ll be tough to get anywhere near your handicap here.

We played the first nine twilight, as we started after 17.00. Especially hole 4, 5, and 6 were impressive. Hole 4 is a par four of 320m, with beautifully maintained bunkers, and potbunkers protecting the green, which, if there weren’t that many trees in the background, feels a links hole. Hole 5 is a 165m par three, straight up a hill, with a deep bunker in front, and a verry small green. Hole 6 is a long par four, 434m down hill, giving you the opportunity to really let loose with the driver, giving you only a short wedge to the green (see the image above).
